Customer wanted a weighted blanket that was the same size all around. Either a 3 ft by 3 ft or 4 ft by 4 ft. The goal was to make one that was durable, had therapy beads, and could be machined washed.
After gathering the materials, I measured out 36 inches by 36 inches of fabric and added an inch of seam allowance on all sides to be able to fold all edges over by half an inch to make the boarder of the blanket.
After I cut the fabric and marked the seam allowance on all sides, I then started to calculate how many squares I needed to produce an evenly distributed weighted blanket. To make it even, I went with 9 squares measuring 4 inches by 4 inches and marked my rows and columns on the entire blanket.
Once I had my grid outlined, I sewed the columns so I could have space to start inserting the beads. Once the columns were sewn, I used a scant 1/4 cup of beads and put it in each column. Pinning the fabric together towards the top of my first row. I then took it over to the sewing machine and sewed my first row. I continued this process until the blanket was complete.
I finished the blanket by folding the outer edges inward and sewing with an 1/8 inch seem allowance to give a professional look to the boarder of the blanket.
Feel free to contact me for more details if you or someone you know would like me to create a project like this for you.
